Sahel Voyages office is located in the center of Sousse, in a little street in front of entrance to the hotel "Sousse Palace". The easiest way is to take a taxi to Sousse Palace hotel cross the main street and follow heading to railway station. Our office is located on the right hand side about 25 meters from the main street.

    Day 1
    8:00 - Kairouan – Great Mosque
    Short break at the Sidi Oqba mosque which is the first mosque built in Northern Africa. Place is very symbolic for tunisian Muslims. Short time for shopping (souvenirs).
    12:30 - Gafsa (lunch)
    On the way a lot of exotic scenes from the province: traditionally dressed people, camels, donkeys etc. Finally lunch in Gafsa.

    Four wheel drive 3,5 hours in total. Majority of the route is off-road:

    Chebika (Mountain Oasis)
    One hour free time to visit the oasis located in Atlas Mountains Chebika believed to be the most beautiful Tunisian mountain oasis. You can walk through the mountains and/or visit remains of the village destroyed by heavy rain.

    Tamerza - (Mountain Oasis)
    Thamerza is another mountain oasis famous for its spectacular canyon and waterfall.

    Shott el Gharsa (Camel Mountain)
    Climbing on so called “Ong Jmel” mountain which looks like sitting camel. The mountain was used as a scenery for many films e.g. “The English Patient”. Breathtaking views of Shott el Gahrsa salt lake. If the weather is sunny enough you can observe mirage.

    Shott el Gharsa (off Road)
    Off road trough Paris – Dakar rally route located on Shott el Gharsa salt lake. An unforgettable experience!

    Shott el Gharsa (Riding the Dunes)
    Very exciting ride through the dunes, a chance to make incredible pictures.

    Shott el Gharsa ("Star Wars")
    Excellent decorations in the middle of the desert used in “Star Wars” saga. In the film the scenes from “Mos Espa” and “Mos Eisley” towns were shot there.

    18:30 - Nefta (oasis)
    Visiting oasis by carriage (extra paid). Observing irrigation system and specific for oasis storey vegetation. Short show including climbing palm tree and drinking palm tree juice. Next check in the hotel (air-conditioned rooms), dinner and free time at the swimming pool.

    Day 2
    5:00 - Departure (sunrise)
    Wake up call about an hour before departure. After breakfast departure towards Shott el Jerid salt lake. On the way observing sun rise.

    6:15 - Chott El Jerid (Salt Lake)
    Visiting the Shott el Jerid lake which is the biggest salt Lake in Northern Africa. Time to make photos and buy desert roses, dates or souvenirs.

    6:45 - Fatnassa (Yardangs)
    Very photogenic yardangs and dunes. You can make photo with live scorpion and drink mint tea.

    8:30 - Douz (Camel Riding)
    Douz the desert capital of Tunisia where you will see endless Sahara desert (Grand Erg Oriental). Additional attractions include camel/quad/buggy riding, an/or paramotors flight (all of them extra paid).

    12:00 - Matmata (Lunch and Cave Houses)
    In Matmata visiting cave underground house, stop at the view point, enjoying „moon landscape” and lunch.

    El Jem - (Amphitheater)
    Visit at a very well preserved Roman amphitheatre (UNESCO cultural heritage list). Way back to Sousse and arrival to hotels before dinner.

    Necesary Things to Bring with:
    - Towel
    - Proper shoes (could be sandals or sneakers but NOT slippers)
    - Clothes From April to October there is no need to take any warm clothes. During other periods warm clothes protecting from wind and rain should be taken.
    - Airtight bag to protect camera from sand in case of desert storm.

    Safety:
    • During trip with four wheel drive you MUST FASTEN SAFETY BELTS ALL THE TIME even if during not off-road parts of the trip.
    • To protect from sunstroke, water should be drunk frequently and the head should be protected by sun hat.
    • There is a small probability of finding scorpions at large on the way. Usually they hide themselves under the stones or other naturally shaded places.

    Day 1

    7:30 - El Jem (Amphitheatre)
    Visit at a very well preserved amphitheatre which is put on the UNESCO heritage list. On the way a lot of exotic scenes from the province: traditionally dressed people, camels, donkeys etc.

    12:00 - Matmata (Lunch and Cave Houses)
    On the way to Matmata coffee break in Mahres. In Matmata visiting cave house, stop at the view point, enjoying „moon landscape” and lunch.

    14:00 - Dahar Mountains*
    Way through the Dahar Mountains marvelous landscape, many stops at the view points. Passing through many small very exotic looking villages and mountain passes.

    15:00 - Ksar Hadada*
    Visiting the first Berber structure called “Ksar”. This one is well known from “Star Wars” film.

    16:00 - Chenini* (“Hanging Village”)
    Chenini is a famous so called „hanging village” stretched on the top of the mountains. Although partly deserted still is a very attractive place to visit.

    17:00 - Sahara off Road*
    Off road toward Ksar Ghilane oasis which is located almost 100 km deep in the Sahara Desert. Oasis is specific for its red color sand.

    19:00 - Ksar Ghilane* (Oasis)
    Check in dinner and night under the tenths. Enjoying swimming in a thermal lake is another attraction of this place. Possible trekking to ancient Roman fort remains.

    Day 2

    6:00 - Ksar Ghilane (Camel Riding)
    One hour camel riding (extra paid) trough Sahara desert during sun rise. Breakfast and departure toward Douz.

    8:00 Bir Soltane* (Café in the Middle of Desert)
    Coffee break in the „middle of nothing” - Bir Soltan. You can observe process of baking bread in traditional way and taste mint tea.

    10:00 - Douz
    Douz the desert capital of Tunisia. Time to visit the small local market. Additional attractions include quad/buggy riding and paramotors flight (both extra paid). After the lunch way toward Shott el Jerid.

    14:00 - Fatnassa (Yardangs)
    Very photogenic yardangs and dunes. You can make photo with live scorpion.

    8:15 - Camel Mountain

    9:15 - Chebika Mountain Oasis
    One hour free time to visit located in Atlas Mountains believed to be the most beautiful of all Tunisian oasis. You can take a walk through the mountains or and/or visit remains of the destroyed by heavy rain village.

    10:30 Tamerza - Mountain Oasis
    Tamerza is another mountain oasis famous for its spectacular canyon and waterfall where you can swim.

    Way back to the north of Tunisia trough Atlas Mountains. On the way lunch in Gafsa and a lot of exotic scene on the way.

    17:00 - Kairouan (Great Mosque)
    Short break at the Sidi Oqba mosque which is the first mosque built in Northern Africa. Place very symbolic for tunisian Muslims. Possibility to buy souvenirs in near by shops. Return back and arrival to hotels before dinner.

    Check in dinner and night under the tenths. Enjoying swimming in a thermal lake is another attraction of this place. Possible trekking to ancient Roman fort remains.

    Day 2
    7:00 - Sahara (off Road)
    Off road toward Chenini. On the way stone desert, dry periodic rivers and marvelous landscape. Stop to make photos.

    9:00 - Chenini (“Hanging Village”)
    Chenini is a famous so called „hanging village” stretched on the top of the mountains. Although partly deserted still is a very attractive place to visit.

    10:15 - Ksar Uled Debeb (Berer Heritage Museum)
    Ksar Uled Debeb is very well preserved and has a small museum displaying items of Berbers’ heritage. Coffee break in a beautiful Berber style café where you can smoke water pipe.

    11:30 - Ksar Hadada („Star Wars”)
    Visiting Ksar which is well known from “Star Wars” film. A nearby café offers regional delicacy called „corne gazel”.

    12:45 - Medenine (Ksar and Market)
    Visiting a Ksar which is turned into market place. Possibility to buy original handmade souvenirs.

    15:00 - Gabes (Lunch and Oasis)
    Visiting oasis Observing irrigation system and specific for oasis storey vegetation.

    17:00 - Kairouan (Great Mosque)
